In the world of plastic manufacturing, every second in the process counts-and even small improvements in workflow can have a significant impact on productivity, quality, and costs. Tefentech, a company specializing in plastic injection molding, approached us with a clear objective: to streamline the removal and transfer of filter bases from the injection molding machine, a task that had previously been performed manually by an operator.
The challenge was straightforward yet demanding. The product, weighing approximately 3-4 kg, exits directly from the injection machine and requires a stable, secure, and fast gripping solution-one that preserves the integrity of the part without compromising production speed. In addition, the solution needed to precisely match the geometry of the component and the specific working conditions on the production floor.
Following an in-depth analysis of the process and a thorough understanding of the requirements, we designed a fully customized gripper tailored to the application. The foundation of the solution was a wide parallel gripper, on which we built a set of dedicated gripping arms. These arms were carefully engineered to perfectly match the structure of the filter base, enabling accurate and distortion-free handling.
A key element of the solution was the development of custom plastic gripping arms, specifically designed for this task. The components were manufactured in-house using precision CNC machining, with careful material selection to ensure both mechanical strength and gentle contact with the product. In addition, we incorporated a dedicated aluminum plate to support the overall structure and provide long-term stability.
The custom gripper was mounted on a manipulator-an automated system responsible for extracting the part from the machine and transferring it to the next stage of the process. The integration of the manipulator with the new gripper created a complete, cohesive solution that replaces manual handling with a faster, more consistent, and highly reliable automated operation.
After delivery, the client carried out the installation on their machine, supported by our professional guidance and instructions. The result was a smooth and efficient implementation, requiring no complex on-site modifications.
The benefits of the project were immediate and measurable. First, a significant reduction in labor dependency—what was once a manual task became fully automated. Second, a clear improvement in production speed, with the system operating continuously and at a higher pace than manual work. Additionally, improved consistency in handling contributed to higher product quality and reduced human error. Finally, the solution proved to be robust and reliable, designed for intensive, long-term operation.
