Project Background

As part of a heavy agricultural equipment project, Automation Yeruham partnered with a leading manufacturer of advanced agricultural machinery that was required to comply with strict international safety and control standards.

The new regulations required the implementation of redundant control mechanisms for critical safety systems, while providing continuous and reliable real-time feedback on the machine’s status and movement in the field.

The system was required to perform a variety of measurements, including:

  • Measuring the machine’s height from the ground
  • Measuring distance from objects and obstacles in the field
  • Detecting the position and movement of mechanical components
  • Measuring tool angle and tilt during operation

In addition, the system had to operate with high accuracy and reliability under extremely demanding agricultural conditions, including heavy dust and dirt exposure, moisture and changing weather conditions, vibrations and shocks during field operation, long continuous working hours, and dynamic temperature and terrain changes.

The customer also required all sensing components to support industrial CANopen communication — a widely used protocol in the automotive and mobile equipment industries that enables fast and reliable data exchange between system components.

As a result, the project demanded a highly accurate, durable, and reliable sensing solution that could seamlessly integrate into the agricultural equipment’s control systems.

What is the solution that we have developed for the costumer?

After a thorough analysis of the system requirements and operating conditions, our Sensors Department implemented a range of advanced sensing solutions from Baumer, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sensors and automation technologies.

The solution combined several sensing technologies, including:

  • Ultrasonic sensors for distance and height measurement
  • Inductive sensors for position and motion detection
  • Hall Effect sensors for non-contact position sensing
  • Inclination sensors for measuring angles and tool movement

All components were carefully selected according to the application requirements, with full compatibility for CANopen communication and the harsh environmental conditions in which the agricultural machinery operates.
